২৯ সেকেন্ডের ওই ভিডিওতে দেখা যাচ্ছে, পুরুষ পুলিশকর্মীরা ওই যুবতীকে জেরা করছেন। একজন পুলিশকর্মী বলেন, ‘চারপাশে এত হিন্দু থাকতেও তুই মুসলমানকে পছন্দ করলি কেন?’ ঠিক তার পরেই পুলিশকর্মী ওই যুবতীকে মারতে থাকে। যে স্কার্ফ দিয়ে যুবতীর মুখ ঢাকা ছিল, খুলে ফেলা হয় সেটিও।
এনডিটিভির প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়েছে, গত রোববার স্থানীয় লোকজন ও বিশ্ব হিন্দু পরিষদের (ভিএইচপি) কর্মীরা ওই যুবক ও যুবতীকে একসঙ্গে দেখতে পান। এ সময় তাদের বিরুদ্ধে ‘লাভ জিহাদ’ এর অভিযোগ আনেন উপস্থিত জনতা। পরে ঘটনাস্থল থেকে ওই দুজনকে উদ্ধার করে দুটি আলাদা গাড়িতে থানায় নিয়ে যাওয়ার সময়ই ওই যুবতীকে হেনস্থা করে পুলিশ সদস্যরা। সংশ্লিষ্ট পুলিশকর্মী ওই ভিডিও তার সহকর্মীদের সঙ্গে শেয়ার করার খানিকক্ষণের মধ্যেই সেটি পৌঁছে যায় সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায়।
ভাইরাল হওয়া ওই ভিডিওটি করেছে চার পুলিশের একজন। বিষয়টি জানাজানি হওয়ার পর পুলিশ প্রশাসনে আলোড়ন পড়ে যায়। পরিস্থিতি সামাল দিতে অভিযুক্ত চার পুলিশকর্মীকে সাসপেন্ড করা হয়েছে। একই সঙ্গে পুরো ঘটনার তদন্ত শুরু হয়েছে।

ছুটির দিনটি ক্রমে এত বেশি বাণিজ্যিক হয়ে পড়ে যে এটির স্রষ্টা আনা জার্ভিস এটিকে একটি "হলমার্ক হলিডে" অর্থাৎ যে দিনটির বাণিজ্যিক প্রয়োজনীয়তা অভিভূত করার মতো, সেই রকম একটি দিন হিসাবে বিবেচিত করেন। তিনি শেষে নিজেরই প্রবর্তিত ছুটির দিনটির নিজেই বিরোধিতা করা শুরু করেন।[৫][৬]
একটি গোষ্ঠীর মতে এই দিনটির সূত্রপাত প্রাচীন গ্রীসের মাতৃ আরাধনার প্রথা থেকে যেখানে গ্রিক দেবতাদের মধ্যে এক বিশিষ্ট দেবী সিবেল-এর উদ্দেশ্যে পালন করা হত একটি উৎসব। এশিয়া মাইনরে মহাবিষ্ণুব -এর সময়ে এবং তারপর রোমে আইডিস অফ মার্চ (১৫ই মার্চ) থেকে ১৮ই মার্চের মধ্যে এই উৎসবটি পালিত হত।
প্রাচীন রোমানদের ম্যাত্রোনালিয়া নামে দেবী জুনোর প্রতি উৎসর্গিত আরো একটি ছুটির দিন ছিল, যদিও সেদিন মায়েদের উপহার দেওয়া হত।
মাদারিং সানডের মতো ইউরোপ এবং যুক্তরাজ্যে দীর্ঘকাল ধরে বহু আচারানুষ্ঠান ছিল যেখানে মায়েদের এবং মাতৃত্বকে সম্মান জানানোর জন্য একটি নির্দিষ্ট রবিবারকে আলাদা করে রাখা হত। মাদারিং সানডের অনুষ্ঠান খ্রিস্টানদের অ্যাংগ্লিকানসহ বিভিন্ন সম্প্রদায়ের পঞ্জিকার অঙ্গ। ক্যাথলিক পঞ্জিকা অনুযায়ী এটিকে বলা হয় লেতারে সানডে যা লেন্টের সময়ে চতুর্থ রবিবারে পালন করা হয় ভার্জিন মেরি বা কুমারী মাতার ও "প্রধান গির্জার" সম্মানে। প্রথানুযায়ী দিনটিকে সূচিত করা হত প্রতিকী উপহার দেওয়া এবং কৃতজ্ঞতাস্বরূপ রান্না আর ধোয়া-পোছার মত মেয়েদের কাজগুলো বাড়ির অন্য কেউ করার মাধ্যমে।[তথ্যসূত্র প্রয়োজন]

জুলিয়া ওয়ার্ড হোই রচিত "মাদার্স ডে প্রক্লামেশন" বা "মা দিবসের ঘোষণাপত্র" মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে মা দিবস পালনের গোড়ার দিকের প্রচেষ্টাগুলির মধ্যে অন্যতম। আমেরিকান গৃহযুদ্ধ ও ফ্রাঙ্কো-প্রুশীয় যুদ্ধের নৃশংসতার বিরুদ্ধে ১৮৭০ সালে রচিত হোই-এর মা দিবসের ঘোষণাপত্রটি ছিল একটি শান্তিকামী প্রতিক্রিয়া। রাজনৈতিক স্তরে সমাজকে গঠন করার ক্ষেত্রে নারীর একটি দায়িত্ব আছে, হোই-এর এই নারীবাদী বিশ্বাস ঘোষণাপত্রটির মধ্যে নিহিত ছিল।
